2022 was a struggle for Waynesville basketball.
The Tigers compiled a 4-17 record during a season which included an extended Covid-19 break in January.
“Last year was a challenging season for us,” head coach Chris Pilz said. “We faced some adversity that was completely out of our players’ control. I was proud of how our kids competed and played through adversity.”
Waynesville will be led by a trio of talented upperclassmen this season in 6-foot-3 junior Tyrique Brooks (22.9 ppg), 6-foot-4 senior Niko Fau (10 ppg, 11 rpg) and 6-foot-1 senior Luther Supancic (6 ppg, 6 rpg).

“We are fortunate to have several players back with experience who invested time to work on their game this offseason,” Pilz said. “This group is tough & will play extremely hard. Our team has spent a tremendous amount of time increasing our strength, speed, jumping ability and agility.”
Pilz is confident the experience gained through 2022’s adversity will pay dividends as the Tigers prepare for the upcoming season.
“Our team is focused on avoiding distractions and playing unselfish basketball,” Pilz said. “This group has trained consistently, hard, smart and with a purpose. Our basketball staff is committed to helping our players and parents have a great basketball experience this season.”
