ST. LOUIS – Missouri State cornerback and return specialist Montrae Braswell (Avon Park, Fla.) was named Missouri Valley Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Braswell’s clutch 56-yard kickoff return in the second quarter of Saturday’s senior day game against visiting Youngstown State set up a key Bears touchdown in a back-and-forth showdown that featured seven lead changes. Missouri State emerged victorious, 25-22.

His big return would ultimately give Missouri State a 7-6 halftime lead. The All-American return specialist averaged 28.5 yards on four kickoff returns for the game and finished the afternoon with 115 all-purpose yards.

It is Braswell’s second such MVFC honor this season, also being recognized as MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 4, and the fourth time in his career he has received league distinction.

The MVFC also recognized TB Jaleel McLaughlin of Youngtown State (Co-Offensive Player of the Week); QB Tommy Schuster of North Dakota (Co-Offensive Player of the Week); LB James Kaczor of North Dakota State (Defensive Player of the Week); and LB Malachi McNeal of North Dakota (Newcomer of the Week).

Missouri State, which has won two of its last three conference contests, concludes the 2022 season Saturday when coach Bobby Petrino‘s Bears travel to Indiana State for a 12 p.m. (Central) kickoff at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute.
