Laquey girls basketball improved from seven wins in Michael Parten’s first year as head coach to 13 wins in year two. The Hornets are poised to add even more wins to that total this season with their four leading scorers returning.

Parten expects Alexis Shelton (junior) and Aurora Rice (senior) to be team leaders this season.

Shelton led the team with 14.4 points per game on her way to first-team all-conference honors last season.

“On the court she runs the show,” Parten said. “I believe she does a great job of being a coach on the floor. She sees and understands the game very well.”

Rice averaged 5.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season.

“She is our lone senior, and the girls look up to her,” Parten said. “She is very athletic and is a gifted shooter.”

Olivia Boevingloh, Adrienne Miller and Emma Tolbet also return for Laquey.

Boevingloh scored 5.3 points with 3.9 rebounds per game last winter. Miller was the team’s second-leading scorer in 2021-22 at 9.9 points per game with 6.5 rebounds per game. Tolbet saw action in 19 games with 1.9 points per game.

Addison West is a newcomer who will look to carve out a varsity role.

Laquey opens the season Nov. 22 at home against Tuscumbia.
