Chris Couch enters his first season as head coach of the Plato girls basketball program with a pair of juniors in Brenna Couch and Kaylee Copley set to lead the team.

“Kaylee Copley is the hardest worker out there. Great floor general. Sets the tone and tempo for the team. Attacks the basket on a regular basis and isn’t afraid to shoot from outside either,” Coach Couch said. “Brenna Couch will also be a team captain. She leads by example, motivates everyone to push through. Can score from inside and out, also a relentless rebounder. These two players have had the most experience at the varsity level and both have natural leader personalities. Their teammates respond to that.”

This duo is great at leading by example.

“What they ask out of their teammates, they do themselves,” Coach Couch said. “Both are very good at assuming the blame, holding themselves accountable and not pointing the finger elsewhere.”

Sophomores Tavi Craddock, Makayla Fletcher and Sierra Thompson return to the varsity team as well.

Couch on Craddock: “Tavi is an aggressive two-way player and just might lead the charge defensively. Will help round out our guard play.”
Couch on Fletcher: “She is a well-rounded player and a threat from multiple spots on the floor. She will play a larger role this year.”
Couch on Thompson: “Sierra is also a sophomore and will help with our ball handling and improve our outside shooting. Added depth at the guard spot but can play some inside as well.”

Tessa Howell, Jayanna Draper, Brooklyn Delcour and Mackenzie Perryman will look to contribute on the varsity level.

Couch on Howell: “Tessa Howell is a vocal motivator that plays a big role for our team chemistry and adds another perimeter shooting option.”
Couch on Draper: “Jayanna Draper is another aggressive type player and I look for her to have a larger role this year.”
Couch on Delcour: “Brooklyn Delcour will add some much-needed physicality to the team and improve our bench depth.”
Couch on Perryman: “Perryman is going to make an immediate impact as she is solid at multiple positions, comfortable anywhere on the floor.”
Couch will look for this team to be a stout defensive unit.

“(We are) a team full of players hungry to prove themselves,” Couch said. “Defensively, I feel we can really get into the other team.”

Plato opens the season Nov. 26 through Dec. 3 at the Frisco League tournament.
