Marionville upset top seeded Greenwood to claim its home tournament title. RUSH (third place), Stockton (consolation) and Miller (seventh place) also won on Saturday.
CHAMPIONSHIP: Marionville 63, Greenwood 54
Marionville claimed its home tournament title with a second straight upset. Two days after beating No. 2 Seymour, the third-seeded Comets took down No. 1 seed Greenwood 63-54 in the title game.
The Comets led 12-11 after one quarter. The second quarter proved to be the turning point with Marionville winning the frame by a 23-16 margin to extend its lead to eight at the half with a 35-27 advantage. Marionville outscored Greenwood in the third quarter 13-12 and the two teams tied 15-15 in the final frame.
Wil Carlton was key for Marionville in the fourth quarter knocking down five free throws. He was 8-for-11 from the line in the game on his way to 16 points. Gage Guerin led Marionville and all scorers with 23 points. He knocked down seven 3-pointers with four of them coming in the game-changing second quarter.
Blane Young was also in double figures for Marionville with 10 points.
Collin Clark led Greenwood with 19 points. Griffin Litherland (14) and Nick Burri (13) also scored in double figures for the Blue Jays.
THIRD PLACE: RUSH 62, Seymour 46
Joe Graves powered RUSH to a 62-46 win over Seymour in the third place game. Graves scored a game-high 33 points including 12 of RUSH’s 14 points in the first quarter.
The third quarter was the difference in the game. RUSH led 14-12 after one period and 24-23 at the half.
Out of the break, RUSH came out on fire with a 20-9 advantage in the frame. RUSH continued to press the advantage in the fourth quarter on the way to the win.
Garrett Rudy scored 10 points to give RUSH a second player in double figures.
Chade Noble and Kasen Richards each scored 12 points for Seymour.
CONSOLATION: Stockton 59, Southwest 49
Stockton started fast in the consolation game against Southwest and never looked back. The Tigers outscored Southwest 17-8 in the first quarter and kept the Trojans at arm’s length for the rest of the game.
Jase Hardesty led Stockton and all scorers with 23 points. Preston Rains (11) and Jax Baxter (11) also scored in double figures.
Lucas Paulsen led Southwest with 18 points. Brendyn Paulsen had 10 points.
SEVENTH PLACE: Miller 48, Wheaton 47
Miller held off a furious rally from Wheaton to hold on for a one-point, 48-47, win in the seventh place game. The Cardinals led 36-28 going into the final quarter. Wheaton responded with a 19-point quarter, but Miller had just enough with 12 points in the fourth.
The Cardinals used a balanced attack with seven different players scoring. Jarod Lung scored 11 points to lead Miller. Owen Weiss (9), Garrett Stewart (8), Alex Pennington (8) and Nate Hill (7) were just behind him.
