Missouri State’s Burkett named FCS All-American

SPRINGFIELD — Missouri State punter Grant Burkett (So., Joplin, Mo.) has been named to the Associated Press FCS All-America Team, presented by Regions Bank, and announced late Tuesday evening by the organization.

A third-team selection, Burkett is coming off a tremendous season with a 43.2 punting average, which currently ranks 12th nationally and No. 1 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference for the second year in a row. He finished the 2022 season with 14 punts downed inside 20 as well as 11 punts of 50 yards or more.

Burkett was a consensus All-American in 2021 with honors from AP, AFCA, Stats Perform, Phil Steele and Hero Sports. He was also a preseason All-Valley first-team pick this fall and ranks No. 2 among all active FCS punters in career average (44.1).

Burkett earned All-MVFC distinction for the third time and for the second time as a first-time honoree.

The remainder of the AP FCS All-America Team includes 13 other players from the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
