CHICAGO – Missouri State cornerback Montrae Braswell (Avon Park, Fla.) has been named to the Stats Perform FCS All-America Football Team, the organization announced Tuesday.

Braswell is a second-team selection on this year’s team. He joins Northern Iowa’s Benny Sapp on the second team as the only defensive backs from the Missouri Valley Football Conference on this year’s Stats Perform All-America Team.

A three-time All-MVFC first-team selection, Braswell finished the 2022 season with 44 total tackles, including 28 solo stops. He notched a season-high seven tackles at Arkansas on Sept. 17. Braswell was also a preseason all-conference pick at both return specialist and DB this year after earning All-American honors in 2021 at both positions.

He also led the Valley in kickoff return average (30.3) and posted his third career kickoff return for a touchdown in the Bears’ season opener at UCA on Sept. 1. He earned MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season (Sept. 4 and Nov. 12).

Last season, Braswell earned All-America status from Stats Perform (second team), Associated Press (second team) and Phil Steele (third team) as well as laurels on the Hero Sports Sophomore All-America Team.

He joins teammate Grant Burkett (P, Joplin, Mo.) as Missouri State’s FCS All-America honorees so far during the 2022 postseason awards series.

Coach Ryan Beard was announced as Missouri State’s new head football coach on Monday after serving as the program’s defensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
