Webb City claims program’s second Kaminsky Classic title

Webb City won the program’s second Kaminsky Classic title holding off Francis Howell for a 53-52 win.

The Cardinals led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, but Francis Howell was able to chip away. Donovan Sparks gave Francis Howell a 52-51 lead with 2:05 left in the game. Webb City got an answer from Barron Duda on the ensuing possession to take a 53-52 lead that would hold up until the end of the game.

The game saw nine lead changes and six ties with Webb City leading for 24:40 to Francis Howell’s 4:54.

Duda led Webb City with 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the game. Holton Keith also finished in double figures for Webb City with 11 points. Alex Martin led the Cardinals in rebounding with 10 to go with six points.

Webb City improved to 10-2 on the season with the win.

THIRD PLACE: Joplin 66, Poplar Bluff 60

Joplin finished third in its home tournament thanks to huge games from All Wright and Whit Hafer. Wright scored 32 points on 11-for-20 shooting while Hafer tied the tournament record with 16 rebounds.

The Eagles jumped out early to take a 29-18 at the half and a 52-39 after three. Poplar Bluff outscored the Eagles 21-14 in the final quarter but it would not be enough.

Joplin never trailed in the game.

Wright’s 32 points were fifth all-time in a single game for the tournament. He holds the tournament record of 35 points set last year.

Joplin improved its record to 7-4 with the win.

SEVENTH PLACE: Neosho 44, Carl Junction 38

Neosho used a big second half to come back for a seventh place game win over Carl Junction. The Wildcats trailed 30-13 at the half, but came out of the locker room on a mission defensively. Neosho held Carl Junction to four point in each of the third and four quarters outscoring the Bulldogs 31-8 in the half to pick up the win and improve to 10-4 on the season.

Isaiah Green was a star for Neosho in the game with 14 points and seven steals. His seven steals was second all-time for a single game in the tournament’s history.

Carter Baslee (11 points) and Kael Smith (10 points) also scored in double figures. Smith just missed out on a double-double with nine rebounds.

Carl Junction was led by Ayden Bard with 12 points and Cooper Vediz with 10 points.
