The Marionville boy’s basketball team is having a historic year.
The Comets are on a 14-game win streak which is the longest in program history.
A huge part of that success is one of the best athletes to ever come through Marionville.
Sports are a part of Wil Carlton’s DNA.
“I feel like I get to really be myself when it comes to sports,” said Wil.
Sports also keep him busy.
“I just like to not be bored basically,” the Marionville senior added.
There’s plenty to keep him from boredom.
“I play football, basketball, track, golf, and baseball this year,” Wil said.
Wil is a baseball pitcher, the Comet’s best golfer, and has tied the school record in the high jump. Balancing practice time for three sports in the Spring.
“I’ll probably go early mornings go pitch for baseball, then when it comes to track and golf I’ll go just flip days,” Wil said.
However, it’s in the fall and winter where this Comet shines the brightest.
“He’s just a really good athlete all the way around,” said Marionville boy’s basketball coach Rob Guerin.
Wil holds the school records for most touchdowns and passing yards in a career.
“My best sport? I’m going to say it’s probably football,” Wil said.
On the court, he’s a 1,500-point scorer for the Comets.
“He kind of sets the tone throughout the game and he is a good defender. In pressure situations or times when we need to score, we always look to him,” Guerin said.
Wil says he believes his team has the making for a postseason run.
“The dedication, the IQ, the coaching, I think we have every piece that we need for a state championship,” Wil said.
As Marionville knows, where there’s a Wil there’s a way.
