No. 3 seed Purdy used a strong defensive performance in the second through fourth quarters to pull away from upset-minded No. 6 Miller 56-40 in the Class 2 District 12 quarterfinals at Verona.
Miller came out on fire knocking down six first-quarter 3-pointers to take a 20-12 lead after one quarter.
Purdy’s defense clamped down from there allowed just 20 points for the next three quarters while scoring 44.
Jake Young was consistent throughout the game with at least five points in three of the four quarters on his way to a team-high 19 points. JJ Felipe also scored in double figures for the Eagles with 12 points.

Miller tried to use the 3-pointer to score the upset with 10 of the Cardinals’ 14 field goals in the game coming from behind the arc. Owen Weiss led Miller and all scorers with 20 points.
Purdy advances to face No. 2 seed College Heights on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Verona in the district semifinals.
