Wheatland uses balanced attack to beat Halfway

No. 3 seed Wheatland staved off a big night from Halfway’s Maddox McCarthy to advance in to the Class 1 District 5 semifinals.

McCarthy scored a game-high 26 points in the loss for No. 6 Halfway.

Wheatland clamped down defensively in the first quarter taking a 13-4 advantage after one. The Mules extended the lead in each successive quarter by two, three and two points to pick up the win.

While Halfway had a big game from McCarthy, Wheatland used a more balanced attack with Nathan Sawyer (18 points), Andrew Murphy (13 points) and Davin Sawyer (11 points) all scoring in double figures. Seven total Wheatland players scored in the game.

The Mules (15-12) will face No. 2 seed Humansville at 7:30 pm on Wednesday at Wheatland in the Class 1 District 5 semifinals.

Halfway finishes the season with a 6-20 overall record.
