Thayer started fast and rolled past Alton 74-42 in the Class 3 District 10 semifinals on Wednesday night in Houston.
The Bobcats (22-4) outscored Alton 21-5 in the first quarter to establish a commanding lead. The Comets cut the Thayer led by five going into the half down 31-20. Out of the half, Thayer had its best offensive quarter outscoring Alton 25-14 in the frame followed by an 18-8 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Aidan Burns led Thayer and all scorers with 23 points. Devin Harrington (18 points), Brandon Prince (15 points) and Rowan Spencer (10 points) gave Thayer four players in double figures.

Marcus Cockrum led Alton with 13 points.
The win sets up a rematch with Mansfield for the Class 3 District 10 championship at 6:30 pm on Friday in Houston. Mansfield handed Thayer one of its four losses by a 71-62 margin in the Cabool Tournament championship on Dec. 29. The two teams are tied for the No. 2 ranking in Class 3 in the latest state basketball coaches rankings.
