Weaubleau advances to district title game on buzzer-beating basket

No. 2 seed Weaubleau survived an upset bid from No. 3 Morrisville 54-53 in the Class 2 District 13 semifinals on Wednesday night.

The Tigers went to the free throw line with 1.9 seconds left and down two. The first free throw was good, but the second one missed. Weaubleau got the putback from Clayton Ginnings for the win to keep its season alive.

Weaubleau had a strong first half taking a 31-23 lead into the half. Out of the break, Morrisville cut the lead to three with an 18-13 advantage in the frame to enter the fourth quarter down 44-41. Weaubleau held on in the fourth quarter thanks to the late putback.

Gage Johnson, Blane Durnell and Dawson Stewart led Weaubleau with 16, 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Landon Burrow led Morrisville and all scorers with 18 points. Triston Bruegman was just behind him with 16 points.

Weaubleau advances to face top seeded Ash Grove for the Class 2 District 13 championship at 7 pm on Friday at Ash Grove.
