Licking survives upset-minded Thayer with fourth-quarter comeback

No. 2 seed Licking overcame an eight-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to come back and beat No. 3 seed Thayer 57-55 in the Class 3 District 10 semifinals.

Thayer came out strong taking a 16-13 lead after one quarter and a 32-24 lead after three quarters. The two teams played even in the third quarter making Thayer’s lead 45-37 entering the fourth quarter.

That is when Licking, and specifically Kaida Cook, went to work.

Cook knocked down three 3-pointers and scored 14 of Licking’s 20 points in the quarter. She finished the game with 17 points.

Hannah Medlock was a key for Licking through the first three quarters on the scoreboard with all of her game-high 20 points coming in the first three frames. She made five 3-pointers in the game.

As a team, Licking hit 12 3-pointers in the comeback victory.

Abigail Sullins scored 13 points to give Licking three players in double digits.

Hadley Meyer led Thayer with 18 points in the game. Madalyn Donahue had 12 points.

Licking advances to face top-seeded host Mansfield for the district title at 6 pm on Saturday. Mansfield beat Licking 49-36 in the Mountain Grove Tournament championship on Dec. 29.
