Three-point barrage leads Fordland past Marionville in C2D11 title game

Fordland used a barrage of three-pointers to upset top-seeded Marionville and with the Class 2 District 11 championship. It is the first district title for the Fordland girls since 2012.

Fordland held a modest 17-15 lead after one quarter and 37-34 at the half.

The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game, as Fordland’s defense put together a strong eight-minutes which led to an 18-4 advantage in the frame and a 55-38 lead after three quarters.

Fordland closed the game out with an 18-15 fourth quarter to get to the final score of 73-53.

Kenzie Haskins led the 3-point party with seven by herself on the way to a game-high 23 points. She scored 17 of her points in the first half.

The key third quarter was a true team effort on both ends of the court with six different players scoring in the quarter.

Loren Bojko (12 points) and Shelby Thompson (10 points) also scored in double figures for Fordland.

Lucy Newberry led Marionville with 20 points. Maggie Murphy contributed 12 points in the loss.

Fordland advances to face College Heights Christian in the Class 2 state sectional round. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 28 in Carthage.
