Hartville boys basketball is back in the state quarterfinals after beating Eugene 55-40 in the Class 2 state sectional round in Lebanon on Monday.
The Eagles jumped out to a 14-7 lead after the first quarter and 27-17 lead at the half. Eugene cut the lead to seven at 35-28 heading into the fourth quarter, but responded with a 20-10 advantage in the final frame to pick up the win.
It was a true team effort all the way around for Hartville with four different players scoring in double figures and three more scoring at least one basket. Payton Cogill (13 points), Jalon Cryer (11 points), Haylon Bel (10 points) and Payton Cogdill (10 points) were the double-figure scorers for the Eagles.
Hartville (24-5) advances to face Marionville (27-2) in the Class 2 state quarterfinal round at 6:15 pm on Friday in Warrensburg.
