Indianapolis, Ind. – Four Bearcat men were named to All-GLVC teams as announced by the conference office this afternoon. Quinn Nelson and Mitch Ganote earned their second straight 1st team award, while Drenin Dinkins and Ayden Stone were All-Conference honorees for the first time.

Graduate guard Quinn Nelson earned his second straight unanimous All-GLVC 1st team selection this season. A year after being named GLVC player of the year Nelson he had another year for the record books averaging 14.71 points per game. He led the team in scoring shooting 49% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc. Then on February 16th, he became SBU’s all-time leading scorer off a typical Quinn Nelson and-1 three-point play. He heads into his final GLVC conference tournament with 1,805 points, 585 field goals made, and an SBU record 355 3-pointers made.

Senior guard Mitch Ganote was named to his second straight All-GLVC 1st team selection and All-GLVC defensive team. Ganote led the entire conference in double-doubles this season with 12, he had a total of seven his first three seasons. He was 5th in the conference in rebounding but the #1 point guard averaging 7.4 per game. He was also the GLVC best passer averaging 5.9 assists per game and had the best assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.9. Earlier this season Ganote became the first player in SBU history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 400 assists.

Freshman Drenin Dinkins became the first SBU player to be named to the All-GLVC freshman team. The South Iron star had an immediate impact for the Bearcats averaging 9.5 points per game, the most by a Bearcat in their freshman season since 2018. Currently Dinkins is 2nd in the Nation in free throw percentage making 89 of 95 free throws attempted for 93.7%. If that percentage holds through post season, he will also set a new SBU single season record in free throw percentage.

Junior forward Ayden Stone was named as the SBU sportsmanship honoree. Stone became a huge asset for the Bearcats down the stretch starting in the last 16 contests. He averaged just under six rebounds per game during that stretch and shot 63% from the field on the season. He was most known for his hustle and effort put into every single game.

The Bearcats head into their fourth straight GLVC tournament starting tomorrow afternoon. They enter as the #7 seed and will battle the #2 seed Illinois-Springfield for the third time this season. Southwest Baptist has lost the two previous games to them by a total of three points, both off last second baskets. The four GLVC honorees and the rest of the Bearcats head into March looking to go on a run beginning with the Prairie Stars.
