Kickapoo upsets Nixa in Class 6 District 5 semifinals

No. 3 Kickapoo upset No. 2 seed Nixa 60-56 in the Class 6 District 5 semifinals.

The first quarter was a low-scoring affair with Kickapoo taking an 8-5 lead after the first eight minutes. Kickapoo pushed the advantage to 27-23 at the half. The Lady Chiefs expanded the lead even further in the third quarter winning the frame 18-15 to take a 45-38 into the final quarter. Nixa outscored Kickapoo 18-15 in the final quarter, but came up short of the comeback.

Four different Kickapoo players scored in double figures led by Kya Johnson’s 16 points. Mikayla Pilley had 12 points while Delaney Wylie and Mya Nieto each scored 11 points.

Norah Clark had a game-high 27 points for Nixa.

Kickapoo will face top-seeded Republic at 6 pm on Tuesday in Nixa in the Class 6 District 5 championship game.
