Veteran coach Walter Resa takes over as head coach of East Newton softball this season. Resa was head coach for Webb City from 1994-2013 posting a 498-92 record.
He inherits a team that went 18-7 last year. East Newton returns three starters and four lettermen.
First-Team All-Big 8 pitcher Gracie McMahan returns for her junior year.
“Gracie was an effective pitcher because of her command,” Resa said. “As a junior I would hope she will take off where she ended a year ago.”

Gracie Ford was named honorable mention all-conference as a freshman. She will see time at pitcher as well as some other positions.
Senior Josie Guinn returns behind the plate. She was honorable mention all-conference last season.
“The strengths of the team will be the leadership by our seniors,” Resa said. “We hope to improve on a daily basis and having the girls to not be satisfied. My overall expectations will be set when season starts and the athletes understand their roles and what they are capable of.”
East Newton opens the season Mar. 20-23 at the Mt. Vernon Tournament.
