Former Dora, Kickapoo, and Missouri State basketball player, Isaac Haney, has announced his commitment to Austin Peay State in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Haney made the announcement on social media Wednesday evening.

Haney tells KY3 Sports Director Mark Spillane he “fully expects to sit out a year” per NCAA rules for a player transferring between four-year schools for a second time.

Haney says the reason for choosing to sit a year is to continue playing for Austin Peay Head Coach Corey Gipson.

“[I] believe that in staying under a coaching mind like Coach Gipson, I will grow and mature my game. Since I will retain two years of eligibility I believe it is very beneficial in the long run for my career. The main motivation was my loyalty to Coach Gipson will far outweigh having to sit out for a year,” he said.

Haney spent his freshman year at Missouri State during the 2021-22 season while Gipson was a Bears assistant and one of the program’s main recruiters. Haney then transferred to Northwestern State in Louisiana for his sophomore year when Gipson was hired as the NWSU head coach after the 2021-22 season.

Gipson was then hired to be the head coach at his alma mater, Austin Peay, a few weeks ago, so Haney will make the move to follow Gipson once again.

Haney joins fellow former Bear Ja’Monta Black as players who transferred from Missouri State to Northwestern State and then to Austin Peay.

Haney won two state championships in high school, capturing the Class 1 state title in 2019-20 with Dora and the Class 6 title in 2020-21 with Kickapoo. He was also named Missouri’s Class 1 Player of the Year during his sophomore and junior seasons at Dora. He’s the fourth all-time leading scorer in Missouri high school history.
