The Mountain Grove girls and Salem boys were dominant on the way to claiming the team titles at the SCA track meet in Mountain Grove on Monday. Mountain Grove more than doubled-up runner-up Willow Springs with 217.5 points. Willow Springs posted 105 points. Salem scored 192 points to win the title over Ava by 32 points.
Mountain Grove girls win 11 gold medals
The Mountain Grove girls claimed 11 of 19 available gold medals on Monday.
Jozey Sharp-MacPherson continued her dominant sprinting season winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes in times of 13.18 and 26.98.
The sprint relays were also dominant. The 400-meter relay ran a time of 51.85 to win by more than four seconds. The 800-meter relay posted a time of 1:49.11 to win by more than eight seconds.
Kailyn Wake showed off her versatility as a jumper for Mountain Grove sweeping the high jump (5’3), long jump (16’9.5) and triple jump (32’7.25).
Freshman Kylie Roth was the top hurdler in the SCA winning both the 100- (17.72) and 300-meter hurdles (50.15).
Raylee Stenzel (400-meter dash – 62.57) and Katelyn Jarrett (1600-meter run – 6:00.24) rounded out the gold medal performances for Mountain Grove.
Cabool’s Elaina Swisloski was the only non-Mountain Grove athlete to win multiple gold medals with a sweep of the discus (109’9) and shot put (33’11.5). Teammate Hannah McCrosky won the 3200-meter run in a time of 13:34.79.
Salem’s Savannah Manthey proved why she is a state title contender in the javelin for Class 3 with a winning throw of 129’11.5. She won the competition by more than 45 feet. Teammate Rebekah Pipp won the pole vault with a mark of 8’11.75.

Willow Springs got a pair of gold medals from Hailey-Jade Unruh in the 800-meter run (2:37.85) and the 1600-meter relay (4:42.57).
Ava’s 3200-meter relay team won the gold medal with a time of 11:43.75.

Salem boys use depth to win team title
The Salem boys showed off their depth on the way to the team championship. The Tigers won just four of 15 available individual gold medals, but three of the four relay golds.
Wyatt Campbell (400-meter dash – 53.44), Braden Atkinson (800-meter run – 2:13.24) and Alex Diehl (1600-meter run – 5:14.83) claimed Salem’s three individual track gold medals. Josh Owen won the pole vault at 11’11.75 for Salem’s only field gold medal.
The 400-meter relay (45.60), 1600-meter relay (3:43.75) and 3200-meter relay (9:19.09) squads all won gold. Ava took the other available relay gold medal in the 800-meter run (1:35.12).
Ava’s Braydon Thorburn and Rylin Dickson dominated the sprints finishing in the top two for both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Thorburn won the 100 at 11.79. Dickson won the 200 at 24.10. Isaac Smith (3200-meter run – 11:35.47) and Luke Little (discus – 126’9.25) claimed Ava’s other two gold medals.
Liberty swept the jumps and the hurdles. Drew Ripko won a pair of gold medals in the triple jump (41’1) and 300-meter hurdles (41.46). Parker Tune had a strong freshman meet winning the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 17.58. Carter Pruett (high jump – 5’7.75) and Gavin Reese (long jump – 19’5.5) also won gold medals for Liberty.
Houston’s Harold Lassiter won the javelin (137’6), and Mountain Grove’s Jimmy Holloway (45’5.75) won the shot put to round out the gold medal winners.
