The first day of the MSHSAA Class 1-2 State Track Meet has wrapped up. Track events on the first day of the meet are mostly prelims, but the area did bring home three state titles and 32 all-state finishes.
CLASS 2
John Carswell from School of the Ozarks claimed the area’s only Class 2 gold medal on Day 1. He won the pole vault with a jump of 14’4.75. Teammate Shadrach Thompson took second place in the javelin throw with a mark of 162’6.
On the girls’ side, Dixon’s Montgomery Keck was the top placer with a runner-up finish in triple jump. Her mark was 35’7.25.
Licking’s Jadyn Barnes and Pierce City’s Hayden Kramer each won bronze medals. Barnes threw the javelin 120’4 to finish third. Kramer posted a mark of 122’5 in the discus for her bronze medal.

CLASS 1
Dora’s Cade Nold and Richland’s Breah Morris each made their way to the top of the podium on Friday.
Nold ran a blistering 1:57.53 in the 800-meter run to claim first place. He went out in 58.25 for his first 400 and then came back in a 59.29 for his second 400. The first quarter was the second-fastest in the field and the closing quarter was the fastest. Runner-up was almost three full seconds back in 2:00.27.
Morris saved her best for last in the long jump. Going into her sixth and final jump, Morris needed a big performance to defend her top seed and she got it. She leaped 17’1.25 to vault to the top of the standings and the podium.
The distances events were strong for the area in Class 1 on Friday. Morrisville’s Landon Duchscherer (4:29.81), Hermitage’s Justus Yates (4:32.19) and Thomas Jefferson’s Kip Atteberry (4:33.08) finished second, third and fourth in the 1600-meter run. Justin Horn took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.37.
On the girls’ side, Stoutland’s Mallor Shaw ran a 12:04.03 to finish third in the 3200-meter run.
