Nick Dunn finding his groove during 3rd season in Springfield

If you’ve spent any time at Hammons Field the last few years, you’ve probably seen Nick Dunn play ball.

“I don’t know about the longest, but one of the longer ones,” said Springfield Cardinals infielder Nick Dunn.

Nick Dunn’s tenure is one of the longest on the team as nobody has played more games for the Spring Cards since the start of the 2021 season.

Wednesday’s game marked his 273rd contest in a Springfield uniform.

“Definitely having a little bit of time here definitely helps, you know, it’s easier to be comfortable and kind of settle in quicker,” Dunn said.

That comfort has helped the University of Maryland product age like a fine wine in his third season in Springfield.

Dunn has seen his batting average jump during the last three years from .259 to .271 to .304.

“Going through ups and downs the last few years and kind of you know trying to figure things out and develop a process and routine is it’s definitely, you know, the recognition is really nice and you know, I’m glad to see the the the work, you know, pay off a little bit,” Dunn said.

That recognition has come in the form of Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month, an honor he earned in June for batting .372

And Dunn says playing half his games at Hammons definitely makes a difference.

“I think you know, we probably draw some of the biggest crowds in the organization,” Dunn said. “I would say at the minor league level and you know, they always show out it doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, you know, it’s it’s always a decent crowd here, and having them here all the time is definitely, you know, helps fire you up to play better.”

Because it’s always better playing in front of the home fans.
