The Fair Grove track can sometimes feel like home to the Crowleys, “We actually met on the track at Fair Grove,” said Fair Grove alum Jaycie (Cherry) Crowley.
It’s where Jaycie Cherry and Travis Crowley fell in love, “It’s kind of funny that we met on this track,” Jaycie Crowley said.
“We brought our kids here when they were babies,” said Fair Grove alum Travis Crowley.
So it’s no surprise their kids run like they were born with spikes on their feet.
“We would have track practice in our yard, and they were just always quick,” Travis Crowley said.
Over the years, Canyon and Sage Crowley continued to get faster. Last year, Canyon had a breakout season as a sophomore.
“He’s got a lot of things but his endurance, his lungs, he was a workhorse all season running all kinds of events,” Travis Crowley said.
“(I ran) the 100, 200, 400, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400,” said Fair Grove junior Canyon Crowley.
Like father, like son.
“I had the 100, 200, 400, had two relays, and I’ve got the 800 still,” Travis Crowley said.
Those are the school records that Travis Crowley once held at Fair Grove, but Canyon has taken one of those records for himself in the 200-meter-dash.
“You want your records the stay up forever, but with him I’m probably more happy that he’s breaking them and he probably doesn’t care that much,” Travis Crowley said. “If you’re going to lose a record you want your last name to stay up there, it’s incredible.”
Travis still holds the 400-meter-dash record at Fair Grove, well kind of because Canyon tied it at the state meet.
“It’s pretty motivating. It’s going to push me to do better and get his records hopefully,” Canyon said.
The record setting ways runs in the family.
“I had the 100, 200, 400 records in junior high and high school,” Jaycie Crowley said.
Only one of those records remains, and like her husband, Jaycie may see it erased by her own child.
“I still have the 100 here, but my daughter will beat it,” she said.
Sage Crowley was just four one-hundredths of a second away from beating mom’s record, as an eighth grader.
“I like to know that I’m in my mom’s footsteps and I’m going to be where she’s at someday,” said Fair Grove freshman Sage Crowley.
That someday may come as soon as next season.
“Can I still beat Sage? Can he still beat Canyon? I’m pretty sure they can overtake us now,” Jaycie Crowley said.
“We won’t tell them that,” Travis Crowley laughed.
“It’s cool to know that we’re both doing it at the same place,” Canyon said.
One thing is for sure, this family would make one heck of a relay team
