Lockwood has a new head coach in Sarah Scott this season.

“This is my first year as head coach. This summer the girls have worked really hard. I have seen a lot of improvements,” Scott said. “The players are eager to learn and work hard. They are willing to do what it takes to work together and win games. I’m excited about the future of Lockwood Volleyball.”

Scott takes over a team coming off a six-win season with seven players who saw action on varsity last season. Those seven include: Shae Gray (senior defensive specialist/libero), Grace Wilson (setter/outside hitter), Payton Wilson (senior defensive specialist), Adrien Neill (senior outside hitter), Kelsey Daniel (senior middle hitter), Amaleiya Cerrone (junior setter) and Annie Neely (sophomore middle hitter).

Grace Wilson was Lockwood’s lone all-conference selection last season. She earned first-team honors after she put down 170 kills and 301 digs. Gray had 436 assists and 241 digs in 2022. Neill (154 kills) and Daniel (129 kills) each put down more than 100 kills last season. Payton Wilson (175 digs) and Cerrone (122 digs) were each over 100 kills last season.

Breanna Burton (junior outside hitter), Lauryn Queen (junior outside hitter), Kayl Banta (sophomore setter) and Reese Whitesell (freshman MB/OH) are newcomers who will vie for varsity time.

Lockwood will travel to Sarcoxie for a jamboree on Aug. 22 before opening the regular season on Aug. 26 at the Verona Tournament.
