Jasper volleyball has high expectations this year with most every player returning from last season’s 25-win district championship team.

“We didn’t lose any seniors last year,” Jasper head coach Brianna Vinson said. “Experience and team connection are strengths this season. These girls have played together for 2-3 years now. They have a strong bond and work well together on the court. Our offense has really improved this season as well.”

Leading those returning players is junior all-state selection Crystal Smith. Smith, who is also a standout basketball player and track athlete, put down 502 kills last season.

“Crystal Smith carries the team on her back,” Vinson said. “Last year, she was the leader in kills and blocks. She’s a versatile player and very athletic. Her team really looks up to her, and she leads them well.”

Livia Dumm and Laney Cawyer both earned all-conference honors last season and return.

Dumm led the team in digs with 289. Cawyer led Jasper with 309 serve receptions.

“Livia Dumm will come back being a strong force and a senior leader as an outside hitter,” Vinson said, “Laney Cawyer will return as an aggressive libero and a senior leader.”

Shiloh Storm returns at setter after handing out 655 assists last season. Alivea Roberts, a sophomore, brings aggressiveness to her outside hitter position.

Chloe Storm (sophomore) will step up to varsity after playing junior varsity last season. She is a middle hitter.

Jasper opens the season on Aug. 29 at home against Golden City.

“I expect us to have a good season this year,” Vinson said. “After winning districts last season and just falling short at sectionals, I know these girls have a lot of drive to keep working hard to be successful and go even farther this season.”
