St. LOUIS – Missouri State’s Breanah Rives was honored Monday as the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week in volleyball for her performance at the Bear Invitational in Springfield over the weekend.
Rives, an outside hitter from Naples, Fla., had a double-double in all three weekend matches and earned all-tournament honors with averages of 3.62 kills, 3.23 digs and 4.23 points per set.
Rives began the weekend with 14 kills on .239 hitting, 11 digs and three blocks in a 3-1 win on Thursday against Lindenwood. Friday, she tallied five aces versus Western Illinois to go with 14 kills and 17 digs in another victory. Rives finished the weekend with 19 kills and 14 digs in four sets against Arkansas State on Saturday.
The Bears (6-6) begin MVC play on the road this week, visiting Valparaiso at 6 p.m. Friday and UIC at 3 p.m. Saturday.
