Marshfield is home to the Bluejays, so it’s no surprise some of the Lady Jays can fly. One of them being Gracie Kimrey.
“She can get up so we want to feed her the ball high and let her do her thing,” said Marshfield Volleyball Head Coach Jarod Olson. “Very explosive when she is hitting. High energy. She’s also an All-Stater in track and field, so we get to take advantage of that.”
“I’ve done high jump since the 7th grade, so it’s kind of what I gravitated towards,” said Marshfield senior Gracie. “I’ve done other events in track and field, but this last year was one of the only things I did. I kind of did 300 hurdles but that was not for me.”
Flying alongside Gracie is All-Stater Mollie Thomas.
“She’s been able to be our starting setter her freshman year and outside hitter as well,” Olson said. “She has been a six rotation hitter for us for four years now. And she has been all-state for two years and hopefully she can be all-state for a third year.”
“That’s been a dream of mine since I was little,” said Marshfield senior Mollie. “When I played on varsity as a freshman, that was my goal and I didn’t get it, so getting it my sophomore and junior year was really exciting for me.”
The two will soon fly off to the next level to play volleyball in college. Gracie will stay here in Missouri as she’s committed to Drury
“It’s in Springfield you know,” Gracie said. “Like I know it, but I don’t really. So it’s nice just because it is familiar, but it’s also really different.”
Migrate 1247 miles south and you will find Mollie on the sand courts at Florida Gulf Coast.
“It’s in Fort Myers, Florida and it’s a 10 minute drive from the beach,” Mollie said. “There’s a lake on campus…and the girls there, I’ve met lots of them, they are so amazing and nice.”
No matter the distance, these Lady Jays will always have a home roost in Marshfield.
“We’re excited for Mollie to go to Florida and enjoy that,” Olson said. “We’re also excited for Gracie to you know, stay home so to speak and maybe we can watch some games and watch her play.”
For now, these seniors will be soaking up every moment on the court, playing the sport that brought them together nine years ago.
