Carthage swimming wins seven events on way to COC team title

Carthage claimed seven of 12 event titles on the way to winning the COC team swimming championship on Tuesday at Webb City.

The Tigers started out the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:47.01. Kellen Frieling, Braxton McBride, William Wright and Maveric Allphin made up the relay. Wright, Frieling and McBride joined with Aydan Nye to finish the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:34.52.

Frieling and McBride each also won two individual gold medals. Frieling won the 100-yard butterfly (57.46) and the 100-yard backstroke (56.69). McBride won 50-yard freestyle (23.15) and 100-yard freestyle (51.71).

Wright had the final individual gold medal for the Tigers winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.97).

Joplin’s Nathan Wardlow was the only other swimmer to win two individual events in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.86) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.72).

The final relay event went to Nixa winning the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:40.61. The relay featured Ethan Gordon, Quinn Cates, Levi Crow, Gavin Jessen. Jessen won Nixa’s only individual event taking the 200-yard freestyle title in 1:54.41.

Webb City’s Grant Humphrey won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 330.70.
