Warsaw boys basketball will look to bounce back from a one-win season with a host of returning players who saw action on varsity last season.

Juniors Garrett Ferguson, Logan Gemes and Shane Poyser will be expected to provide leadership according to Warsaw head coach Matthew Brownsberger.

“Garrett and Logan started every game and Logan was our leading scorer,” Brownsberger said. “Shane is expected to start this year and is very good defensively and is a high energy kid.”

Sophomores Luke Henderson and Noah Siebert will compete for starting time after seeing varsity action as freshmen.

Classmates Ryan Fajen and Brennen Slavens also saw limited action in their freshmen seasons and will look for expanded roles.

Freshman Roman Reser and sophomore Brayden Henderson could make varsity impacts as newcomers.

“We should be an improved scoring team, but I believe our strength will be our rebounding and defensive play,” Brownsberger said. “We have to score the ball more and more efficiently. We struggled putting the ball in the basket last year.”

Warsaw opens the season on Nov. 17 at Lone Jack.

“We hope to be greatly improved and hope that we have the reputation of being gritty and hard-nosed,” Brownsberger said. “I feel like if we can improve and continue to build that we will be successful.”
