Golden City boys basketball has a new head coach in Joey Graves coming off the program’s fifth consecutive season with at least 18 wins.

“Our biggest strength is our team is that they have experienced past success and playing exposure,” Grave said. “With that said, our team is very young and tasked with improving on skills quickly while developing as a team that consistently works together focused on teamwork.”

The Eagles have 11 total players on the roster with five freshmen.

Ethan Pettengill (senior), Robby Stafford (junior), Spencer Parrill (sophomore), Caleb Hughes (freshman), Jamison Menadue (sophomore) and Nathan Weiser (junior) are the players Graves named as ones to watch.

Graves on Pettengill: “Ethan Pettengill returns and will be combination post and guard that can shoot from the outside and is developing an inside game. Ethan has had some games in the past where he’s consistently scored by hitting the three.”

Graves on Stafford: “Robby Stafford returns as a second-year starter and is the presence in the post getting rebounds. Robby last year contributed by developing as a consistent post player. Robby has hit the weight room in the offseason and has the potential to become more of a scoring threat.”

Graves on Parrill: “Spencer is a very athletic player and second-year starter that had the distinction of making the Golden City All-Tournament Team last year. He has a variety of skills including scoring.”

Graves on Hughes: “Caleb will potentially play and contribute a lot on varsity this season. He worked hard in the weight room in the off-season and has become a guard that plays tough defense.”

Graves on Menadue: “Jamison is an athletic guard with potential to score.”

Graves on Weiser: “Nathan saw a lot of playing time last season and was consistent to help the flow of the game on both sides of the ball.”

Golden City opens the season on Nov. 21 at Ballard.

“I want the team to work together to develop and be consistent working towards a common goal of success,” Graves said. “I will consider it a success if the positives of achievement are focused on in the classroom and on the court success.”
