Laquey girls basketball has a new head coach in Brittany Matlock this season. Matlock served as the head coach at Waynesville for the past 16 seasons.
“I really don’t have one specific thing (that attracted me to Laquey),” Matlock said. “Over the years, there have been opportunities come and go and something just never felt right. When I started looking into Laquey, everything just felt right. There’s the opportunity to coach the junior high, there is a solid core of returning players, and many other things. It’s been a welcoming experience, and I am excited for the opportunity to build on what is established.”
She inherits a program coming off a 20-5 season.
Seniors Alexis Shelton (guard), Addison West (forward), Adrienne Miller (forward) and Olivia Boevingloh (guard) will be the team’s leaders.

Shelton scored 16.1 points per game. West was at 9.2 points per game while Miller (8.1 points per game) and Boevinloh (7.4 points per game) were just behind her. West also had 7.8 rebounds per game.
Laquey opens the Brittany Matlock era on Nov. 21 at Tuscumbia.
“Change can be hard for anyone,” Matlock said. “We have several returners from last year and the new ones are eager to learn and want to contribute. As we continue to learn about each other and adjust to what the season brings, I’m excited about the possibilities. If we are better people on and off the court in March than we are now in October, that is a successful season.”
