Fair Grove uses big second half to win state championship rematch

The Fair Grove girls used a big second half to beat El Dorado Springs 73-64 in a rematch of the Class 3 state championship game from March.

The teams entered the game ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the class in the first Missouri Basketball Coaches Association state rankings released earlier on Tuesday.

El Dorado Springs trailed by two at the end of the first quarter but carried a 32-28 lead at the half.

The defending Class 3 state champion Lady Eagles outscored El Dorado Springs 22-15 in the third quarter to take a 50-47 lead after three. Brooke Daniels led the Fair Grove attack with nine points in the third quarter including going five-for-five from the free throw line. She finished with 14 points.

Fair Grove increased its advantage in the fourth quarter with a 23-17 advantage in the final frame to push the score to a 73-64 final.

Brooke Daniels was consistent throughout the game with at least five points in every quarter on the way to a game-high 23 points.

Cam Hart (12 points) and Abbey Green (10 points) also scored in double figures for Fair Grove.

El Dorado Springs was paced by McKinli Mays with 21 points. Neely Schaaf (15 points) and Alexis Collins (11 points) each posted double figures in scoring.

Fair Grove improved its record to 7-1. El Dorado Springs falls to 6-1 on the season.
