ST. LOUIS – Lacy Stokes of Missouri State women’s basketball has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for her performance against Wichita State on Saturday afternoon, the league announced today (Dec. 18).
Stokes recorded a season-high 21 points as she helped lead the Lady Bears to a 72-65 win over the Shockers. She led all scorers after going 6-for-10 from the field, 2-for-3 from three-point range and 7-for-12 at the charity stripe. The junior rounded out her performance with four rebounds, three assists and a steal. In a second-half comeback for the Lady Bears, the junior point guard scored 15 second-half points and iced the game as she went 7-for-12 from the free throw line in the final quarter.
The game marked Stokes’ fifth double-figure scoring performance of the season in seven games and her first 20-point outing as a Lady Bear. She ranks inside the top 10 in the MVC in assists per game, assist-to-turnover ratio and minutes per game this season, while leading Missouri State in assists (27), steals (12) and free throws made (26).
The honor marks the second of her career. She earned her first MVC Newcomer of the Week award on Dec. 4.
