Marionville overcomes slow start to win and advance in Walnut Grove tournament

No. 4 seed Marionville came alive in the second quarter on the way to a 61-39 win over No. 13 seed Hollister in the opening round of the Walnut Grove Holiday Tournament.

The Comets started out sluggishly trailing 14-9 after one quarter. Marionville regrouped in the break between frames and came out on fire with a 26-point quarter while holding Hollister to 6 to take a 35-20 lead into the break.

Marionville knocked down four of its seven 3-point shots of the game in the second quarter.

Hollister cut into Marionville’s lead with a 14-11 advantage in third quarter, but the Comets put the game away with a 15-5 fourth-quarter advantage.

Hugh Eaton led Marionville with a game-high 17 points. Gage Guerin (14 points) and Isaac Stimpson (13 points) also scored in double figures for Marionville.

Hollister was paced by Noah Richardson with 16 points.

Marionville advances to face the winner of No. 4 Niangua and No. 12 Fordland in the quarterfinals at 7:30 pm on Saturday in Walnut Grove. Hollister will face the loser of that same game in the consolation quarterfinals at 4:30 pm on Saturday at Morrisville.
