Walnut Grove’s defense was on display in a 56-14 win over Hurley in the opening round of the Walnut Grove Holiday Tournament.
The third-seeded Lady Tigers never allowed No. 14 seed Hurley to score more than seven points in any one quarter including holding the Tigers scoreless in the second quarter.
Offensively, Walnut Grove ran up scores of 20, 17 and 17 in the first three quarters, respectively, to take a commanding lead.

Jacie Gavisk led all scorers with 18 points. Ellie Smith was also in double figures for Walnut Grove with 15 points.
Walnut Grove will face No. 6 seed Morrisville in the quarterfinals at 1:30 pm on Saturday at home. Hurley will face No. 11 Spokane in the consolation semifinals at 10:30 am on Saturday at Ash Grove.
