No. 7 seed Sparta pulled off the biggest upset of the Walnut Grove Holiday Classic in a 49-39 win over No 2 seed Marionville.
The Trojans played steady throughout the game winning each of the first three quarters on the way to building a 40-26 lead entering the final quarter. Marionville fought back with a 13-9 advantage in the final frame, but Blue Eye’s lead was too much to overcome.
Layne Forgey led Sparta and all scorers with 15 points. Amree Youngmon was also in double figures for Sparta with 13 points.
Lanie Stokes led Marionville with 13 points.
Sparta advances to play No. 3 seed, and host, Walnut Grove in the semifinals at 7:30 pm on Tuesday. Marionville will play No. 6 seed Morrisville in the consolation semifinals at 4:30 pm on Tuesday in Walnut Grove.
