Smith scores 25 to lead Walnut Grove past Macks Creek

The top 10 battle between No. 6 Walnut Grove and No. 4 Macks Creek lived up to the hype with the Lady Tigers coming out on top with a 49-47 win over host Macks Creek.

Walnut Grove carried a 16-13 lead after the first quarter and 24-20 at the half. Macks Creek battled back in the third quarter to cut Walnut Grove’s lead to one at 39-38 heading into the final frame.

The Lady Tigers were down one with 23 seconds left in the game when Ellie Smith took over, scoring the game’s final three points, one free throw and a field goal, to secure the win for Walnut Grove.

Smith scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Lady Tigers including 12 in the first quarter and five in the final quarter.

India Willis led Macks Creek with 13 points. Addison Ratliff was just behind her at 11 points.

Walnut Grove improves to 11-1 heading into the Pleasant Hope tournament next week. Macks Creek falls to 12-2 on the season and will host Iberia on Jan. 15.
