Paul VI wins program’s third Bass Pro Tournament of Champions title

Paul VI used a big second quarter to pull away from St. John Bosco for a 71-53 win and the program’s third Bass Pro Tournament of Champions title.

Paul VI held a narrow 15-14 lead after one quarter on 7-for-18 (38.9%) shooting.

That number turned around in a big way in the second quarter with the Panthers shooting 9-for-11 (81.8%) from the field to outscore St. John Bosco 23-10 in the quarter.

Darren Harris was the architect of 11 of those points knocking down three of his four 3-point attempts. The Panther defense was a catalyst in the quarter forcing seven turnovers and turning them into 10 points.

Paul VI led 38-24 at the half.

In the second half, Paul VI’s hot shooting continued a 54.5% mark from the field while the defense forced another seven turnovers on the way to the 71-53 win.

Harris led Paul VI with 23 points and earned tournament MVP honors.

Brandon McCoy led all scorers with 27 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the field.
