FAYETTE, Iowa— Drury forward Reese Schaaf put up her fourth-straight double-double and finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Panthers pulled away from Upper Iowa in the second half for an 88-69 win on the road in Fayette, Iowa on Thursday night.
Drury improved to 12-4 and 7-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Peacocks dropped to 7-6 and 4-5 in the league.
The Lady Panthers led by two at the half, 37-35, then outscored Upper Iowa 51-34 in the second half for the win.
“It was kind of the tale of two halves,” said Drury head coach Kaci Bailey. “I thought we were a little bit sluggish at the start and we got beat on two transition buckets in the first half. We came out in the second half with better energy and better movement.”
Schaaf, the reigning GLVC Player of the Week after averaging 24 points and 15.5 rebounds in two games last week, posted another double-double, her seventh of the season. The sophomore from El Dorado Springs went 13 for 17 from the field and has gone 33 for 50 on field goal attempts in her last three games.
“I thought Upper Iowa did a good job on Reese, but she hit some mid-range shots, then was able to get inside and became really hard to guard,” said Bailey. “She is playing poised and calm right now.”
Beth Matas Martin added 20 points and Anna Hitt had a career-high 16 points.
Mia Huberty led Upper Iowa with 18 points.
The Lady Panthers shot 51 percent in the game, hitting 36 of 70 shots and they made 7 of their 16 three-point attempts. Upper Iowa went 40 percent from the field, connecting on 27 of 68 shots and went just 3 for 16 from three-point range.
Drury continues the road trip on Saturday when they travel to Truman State for a 3 pm game in Kirksville, Missouri.
