The Class 2 District 10 quarterfinals featured an instant classic between Bakersfield and Mansfield followed by a pair of 20-plus point wins for Gainesville and Norwood in the final two quarterfinals.
No. 5 seed Bakersfield entered the fourth quarter trailing No. 4 seed Mansfield by 10 points. Then Ethan Cotter took over. Cotter scored 20 points in the fourth quarter including six 3-pointers to help Bakersfield force overtime. In overtime, Cotter scored eight of Bakersfield’s 13 points to give the Lions the 90-87 upset win. Cotter finished with 46 points in the game.
Mansfield was led by Landen Campbell’s 33-point effort.
Gainesville started fast and didn’t look back in a 76-29 win over Fordland. The Bulldogs led 22-7 after the first quarter and 42-15 at the half. Nine different Gainesville players scored led by 19 from Andrew Hambelton.
Norwood also had nine different players score in a 69-47 win over Dora. The Pirates were led by Carder Kelly’s 17 points.
Gainesville and Norwood will play in the 7 pm semifinal on Wednesday. Prior to that game, Bakersfield will play top-seeded Hartville at 5:30 pm.
