Pierce City and College Heights defended their top seeds in the Class 2 District 12 girls basketball tournament semifinals on Monday.
Pierce City used a big second-half rally to beat Jasper. Jasper carried a 30-23 lead into the break. Out of the half, Pierce City used a 17-8 advantage in the third quarter to take a two-point lead into the fourth quarter. Pierce City outscored Jasper 17-15 in the final frame to secure the win. Macie Crowther led Pierce City with 16 points.
Emersyn Bass led Jasper and all scorers with 21 points.
College Heights started fast and didn’t look back on the way to a 69-30 win over Verona. CHC built a 47-14 lead at the half on the strength of Elizabeth Fanning’s 18 first-half points. Fanning finished with a game-high 27 points.
Pierce City advances to face top-seeded Miller at 6 pm in the semifinal round. Miller is a five-time defending district champion. College Heights faces second-seeded Marionville in the 7:30 pm game.
