Class 2 District 2 boys basketball quarterfinal recap

Summersville and Plato advanced to the semifinal round of the Class 2 District 2 boys basketball tournament on Tuesday night.

Summersville used a big fourth quarter to get past upset-minded Winona. Winona carried a one-point lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, five different Summersville players combined to score 13 points to Winona’s seven to pull away for the 49-44 win. Garrin Grear led Summersville with 17 points. Lucas Cook scored 20 points to lead Winona and all scorers.

In the second quarterfinal, No. 6 seed Plato upset No. 3 seed Ellington 59-51. Andrew Woodruff scored 31 points to lead Plato. He set the tone for Plato by scoring 11 of the team’s 14 points in the first quarter to help Plato take a 14-6 lead after one quarter.

Summersville advances to face No. 1 seed Van Buren at 5:30 pm on Thursday in the first semifinal game. Plato plays host and No. 2 seed Cabool in the second semifinal at 7 pm.
