No. 2 seed Liberty and No. 4 seed Willow Springs each advanced to the semifinal round of the Class 3 District 10 tournament with double digit wins while No. 3 seed Licking got a big scare from No. 6 seed Alton.
Licking and Alton were tied at 18 after one quarter. Alton used a strong defense in the second quarter to press a 7-3 advantage and take a 25-21 lead into the break. The Wildcats came out of the break hot with a 13-7 advantage in the quarter to two-point lead into the fourth quarter before going on to win 52-28.
Licking was led by 26 points from Keyton Cook. Roston Stockard also scored in double figures for Licking with 10 points. Alton was paced by Mason Cockrum’s 18-point output.
No. 4 seed Willow Springs jumped out to a 16-10 lead after one quarter and 36-19 lead at the half on the way to a 63-52 win over Seymour. Kolby James (20 points) and Braxton Wilbanks (19) points led the Willow Springs attack. Derek Helms was the top scorer for Seymour with 20 points.
Liberty was dominant from the outset against Houston taking a 24-7 lead after one quarter on the way to a 69-43 win. Terrell Gaines led all scorers with 32 points for Liberty.
Willow Springs will face No. 1 seed Thayer in the first semifinal at 6 pm on Thursday. Liberty and Licking will play in the other semifinal at 7:30.
