The quarterfinal round of the Class 3 District 10 boys basketball tournament featured explosive individual offensive performances in every game.
Forsyth opened the tournament with a 83-73 win over Pleasant Hope. The Panthers weathered the Ryder Labee storm. Labee scored a game-high 37 points for the Pirates including knocking down 10 3-pointers. He scored 18 of those points in a fourth quarter that saw Pleasant Hope outscore Forsyth 24-14.
The Panthers were able to keep Pleasant Hope at arm’s length thanks to jumping out to a big 24-11 lead after one quarter and a balanced attack. Chris Halbrook (22 points), Drue Coen (17 points), TaMarkus Holmes (15 points) and Phoenix Maloney (14 points) all scored in double figures for Forsyth.
In the second game of the night, Sparta’s Jacob Lafferty went for 41 points in an 83-37 win over New Covenant.
Greenwood’s Logan Sanders was the third player to score 30 points on the night, as he hit right on 30 points in Greenwood’s 74-60 win over Conway. Conway’s Tyler Vaughan scored 26 for Conway in the loss.
Forsyth will face top-seeded Fair Grove in the semifinal round at 5:30 on Thursday. Sparta and Greenwood will play in the second semifinal at 7 pm. It is a rematch of the Blue & Gold quarterfinal game won by Sparta 43-40.
