Blue Eye and Wheaton advance to Class 2 District 11 championship game

No. 1 seed, and host, Blue Eye used a big second quarter to advance to the Class 2 District 11 championship game against No. 3 seed Wheaton.

The Bulldogs played Crane even through one quarter at 13-13. Blue Eye outscored the Pirates 19-11 in the second quarter, which would prove to be all the Bulldogs needed on a 57-50 win.

Colton Spinning (14 points), Brady Isbell (12 points) and Braxton Bell (11 points) led a balanced Blue Eye attack that saw six different players score at least five points. Crane’s Owen Vaught led all scorers with 20 points.

In the second semifinal, Wheaton upset No. 2 seed Spokane 54-42. Blake Morgan (16 points), Brody Bateman (14 points) and Houston Roller (11 points) led Wheaton to the upset.

Blue Eye and Wheaton will tip off the Class 2 District 11 championship game at 4 pm on Saturday in Blue Eye. The Bulldogs won the regular season matchup over Wheaton 57-32 on Jan. 30. That victory marked the 10th consecutive win for Blue Eye over Wheaton dating back to Nov. 27, 2012.
