Strafford and Fair Grove advance to Class 3 District 11 championship game

Fair Grove and Stafford will meet in the playoffs for the seventh time since 2013 after both teams won by large margins in the semifinal round of the Class 3 District 11 tournament.

Fair Grove beat host Springfield Catholic 53-32 in the first semifinal. The Eagles held Catholic to six points in each of the first two quarters on the way to a 27-12 halftime advantage. Out of the break, Catholic came out strong outscoring Fair Grove 16-10 in the third quarter to cut Fair Grove’s lead to 37-28. Fair Grove put the game away with a 16-4 fourth quarter advantage.

Abbey Green led Fair Grove and all scorers with 18 points. Camdyn Hart had 12 points and Ashton Bell put up 11 for Fair Grove. Peyton Wiseman scored 13 points to lead Catholic.

Strafford used the same formula as Fair Grove by taking a 20-8 lead after one quarter and a 34-12 lead at the half on the way to a 70-40 win over Sparta. Elsie Larsen led all scorers with 22 points. She was one of 10 Strafford players to score in the game.

Fair Grove and Strafford will play for the Class 3 District 11 title at 6 pm on Friday at Springfield Catholic High School. Fair Grove beat Strafford 59-46 in the regular season matchup on Feb. 15.
