Hartville and Gainesville advance to Class 2 District 10 championship game

Familiar foes will play in the Class 2 District 10 championship game on Saturday in Mansfield, as No. 1 seed Hartville and No. 2 seed Gainesville both won on Thursday.

Hartville beat Bakersfield 65-46 to advance to the program’s 13th consecutive district title game. The Eagles have won 10 district championships in the previous 12 tries.

Mason Cogdill (17 points), Jackson Ward (13 points) and Jalon Cryer (13 points) all scored in double figures for Hartville.

Gainesville needed a fourth-quarter rally to force overtime and ultimately come away with a 66-57 win over Norwood. The Bulldogs trailed Norwood 47-41 entering the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Gainesville outscored Norwood 14-8 to force overtime. Gainesville outscored Norwood 11-4 in the final frame with nine of the 11 points coming from the free throw line.

Andrew Hambelton scored 25 points to lead Gainesville and all scorers.

Hartville and Gainesville will play in the Class 2 District 10 championship game at 5 pm on Saturday at Mansfield. Hartville won the regular season matchup 64-34 on Feb. 13. The Eagles have beaten Gainesville 11 consecutive times dating back to Mar. 5, 2015.
