Wheatland and St. Elizabeth proved why they were the top two seeds in the Class 1 District 7 tournament with each team winning big in the semifinals.
The Mules opened up Thursday’s semifinal round with a 77-43 win over host Macks Creek. Nathan Sawyer poured in 36 points for Wheatland in the win. 30 of his 36 points came via 10 3-point makes.
St. Elizabeth handled Hermitage 57-29 in the second semifinal.
On Saturday, Wheatland will look to do something no team has done since 2018: beat St. Elizabeth in a district tournament. St. Elizabeth has advanced to five consecutive final fours.
Wheatland and St. Elizabeth tip off in the Class 1 District 7 championship game at 6 pm on Saturday at Macks Creek.
