The odds were against Liberty entering Friday’s Class 3 District 10 championship game against Licking.

First, Licking came in as the No. 1 seed in the district over Liberty on the strength of a 50-43 win over the Lady Eagles in the regular season.

Second, the Liberty girls basketball program had never won a district title.

It took overtime, but Liberty turned that history on its head with a 60-55 overtime win over Licking.

Licking started out with a 10-7 advantage after the first quarter. Liberty answered back in the second quarter with a 14-8 advantage and 21-18 lead at the half. The teams played square in the third quarter at 12-all before Licking used a 16-13 fourth-quarter to tie the game and force overtime.

Liberty will host Class 3 No. 6 Fatima in the sectional round on Monday.
